Dimension stone. Abandoned quarries for black granite, 80 kilometres north-west of Fitzroy Crossing, and 8 kilometres north-east of the Tunnel Creek-Windjana Gorge Road.
Several pits were developed here across a one kilometre square area between 1988 to 1990 by Kimberley Granite Resources Pty Ltd.
It is part of an extensive swarm of north to north-west trending mafic dykes in metasandstone-phyllite schist of the Marboo Formation. The numerous metadolerite dykes are near vertical dipping, forming linear ridges up to 40 metres high, and extending intermittently for 2 kilometres. Fine grained granite can be found in the lower ridges up to 10 metres high, in the western sector. Fine grained dykes with high grade black granite can also be found within coarser grained dykes. Estimated resource 1.5 Mt.
Used for Japanese headstones, and interior decoration.
There are 5 quarries named Fairfield 1 to 5, and a 6th which is a prospect. The sites were abandoned in 1990, when the company went into liquidation.
