Named after Australia's highest mountain, or the man the mountain is named after. The Mount Monger area shares little resemblance to the Australian Alps. GML 443Y. The mine dates from the late 1890's. Described in 1906, as an old lease, recently re-activated. Only a trial parcel of 27 tonnes crushed is reported. The lease contained several old shafts on a quartz reef, trending north-west to south-east 15 inches wide. To 1902 the mine had crushed 100 tonnes for 80 ounces.
