The Star of W.A. deposit was discovered by the eccentric Fred Merton around 1894. He also discovered the Kingsley Hall and Early Bird leases nearby, and Merton's Reward Gold Mine in another district, which is listed on Mindat.
The location is a compact area in the scrub of collapsed shafts, minor mullock heaps, and a small pile of grey ore. It is about 1 kilometre west of the Goldfields Highway, and 500 metres north-west of the Paddington mine.
In April 1895, it is noted as owned by the Star of W.A. Proprietary Company, who had uncovered white quartz thickly spotted with coarse gold. Gold amounted to half of some of the specimens. The mine is sold in October 1896 for 10 000 pounds.
By 1899, the lease is owned by the New Arrow Proprietary Company, who have a battery on another lease in the area. Charles Crossland is general manager.
A local syndicate purchases the lease in 1907. Crushings are reported in 1909, and again in 1911. GML 1047W.
The mine produced 7415 tonnes of ore for 7340 ounces of gold. Initially ore was found at 20 dwt, but this decreased in value over time.
