The mine started as an alluvial gully in which several small nuggets were recovered in 1895. A couple of sources state the mine was briefly known as the Enni Killen and Arrow Brownhill in its early days, but the name quickly reverted back to the Eldorado.
Like many of the mines in this area, little information was found from the 1890s. In 1903 to 1904 Green and Laughman (surnames) worked the lease. From 1903 to 1916, the Ibbotson brothers had a camp at the base of the low hills, and were seeking out alluvial leaders within the hill. (Ebbotson and Ibbitson were also found as alternative spellings). After 1916, the brothers left for the North Duke mine nearby.
In 1914, Stanley, Holbourne and party are working the leases.
The mine officially only produced 34 tonnes of ore for 393 ounces, although alluvial nuggets found are probably not included in the total.
The mine can be reached by taking a north north-west track from the intersection of the Goldfields Highway and Broad Arrow-Ora Banda Road. After 2 kilometres a cross track is reached, turn left onto a north-west track for about 2 kilometres and the mine is a few hundred metres to the east. Little remains other than a minor line of shafts in the scrub.
