Marda is a general alternative name historically for the Mount Jackson Goldfield. It may also refer locally to the greenstone belt. Marda was also used as a general location for a type species in another entry against this goldfield. Further, Marda was the name of a gold mine.

About 1 kilometre south of the Bullfinch-Evanston Road and Windarling mine haul road intersection, head south-east along a small track. The entrance is opposite that for the Allen's Find gold mine. After about 1 kilometre is a water tank, and small dam with posts and green slime. Little else appears to be at the site. The usual welcoming signs can be found, threatening legal action and damage to cars. These areas are often active prospecting leases.

The country rocks are tilted metamorphosed acid and basic lava rocks. The quartz reef has an irregular distribution, strike and dip, said to be unique to the goldfield, and unusual for Western Australia. However the most common are north-east to south-west dipping north-east; north-east to south-west dipping north-west; and north-south striking dipping west.

The irregularity is due to the massive rocks not being fissures and sheared in the usual way a north north-west to south south-east greenstone belt is, which is the common direction for the region. The lode strikes east-west at right angles to the lateral pressures, resulting in contorted quartzite, and irregular fissured rocks, the absence of schistose structures, and regular shear zones.

Gold is found in rich short shoots, generally at the intersections with other shoots. The reefs are short and lens shaped. C.S. Honman in 1911, notes a lot of dead work, as the miners chased gold with no real structures to guide them. In 1912, they extracted 120 tonnes of ore for only 53 ounces of gold.

The mine historically was also known as Watermen, owing to the discovery of gold here by a government water boring team during the summer of 1910.

The shaft was down to 10 feet in 1911, as well as a number of holes and trenches at the surface. GML 2343.
