Name(s) in local language(s):
Forte Stella, Monte Argentario, Provincia di Grosseto, Toscana, Italia
Outcrops of meta-conglomerates (“anagenites”) and psammo-pelitic rocks typical of the Mid-Triassic Verrucano sequence evidences along the road-cuttings of Via Panoramica, SE of Forte Stella (SSW of Porto Ercole).
Typical metamorphic mineral assemblages of this locality are muscovite-pyrophyllite-paragonite-quartz ± chlorite ± sudoite in Al-rich rich phyllites, locally with chloritoid, and muscovite-quartz ± chlorite ± sudoite ± chloritoid in Al-poorer varieties (Costantini et al., 1995). As in so many other localities of the Monte Argentario Promontory, the high-pressure indicator mineral Fe-Mg-carpholite had escaped everyone’s notice until recent years (Theye et al., 1997; Jolivet et al., 1998). However, in this particular outcrops, ferro- and magnesiocarpholite occur only locally as remains, mostly replaced by breakdown products.
