Series of small opencast workings (seen chiefly as wooded opencuts and small overgrown spoil heaps) for Manganese, possibly as an extension to the Woodlands opencast workings at the eastern end of the wood. By digging into the ground about 1 foot or so the dark red Manganese bearing shales and mudstones can be clearly seen. Digging in the right places, one will find nodules, veinlets and even whole portions of veins of mixed Manganese minerals, sometimes bearing a metallic lustre and easily distinguished by the weight. An interesting and sometimes, productive location.
