Maruwenua
In the Maerewhenua area, the basement rocks are partly metamorphosed sediments, possibly Triassic in age. These are overlain by later sediments including Tertiary. Two dolerite sheets, probably of early Oligocene age, invaded the sediments while these were still in a wet condition, and pillow structure is locally developed. A paper on the subject using "Maruwenua", an earlier form for the name of the district, was written by A. C. Amies.
