Alluvial gold dredging operation during the late 1920's to late 1950's. According to USGS data (http://minerals.usgs.gov/minerals/pubs/state/980298.pdf) renewed commercial placer mining was undertaken in 1997. One of the historic gold dredges (Dredge No. 8) constructed for use at Fox and contiguous streams has been preserved and is open as an interpretive museum dedicated to regional gold mining history cf: http://www.golddredgeno8.com/.
