The first description of Stilbite from Victoria was from this location in 1880 by Newbery.
At Ceres, Cretaceous sandstones were quarried and used for building purposes. Recently some has been used in the restoration of historic buildings. The sandstone is volcanogenic in origin and contains quartz, clay, calcite, chlorite and accessory minerals. The rock has significant durability problems.
