The species was called "sodium pharmacosiderite" but it underwent a name change in 2008 to Natrospharmacosiderite. Another source states it was identified from a museum specimen.
Without checking the original source, at present the exact location is uncertain. Marda can refer as an alternative historic name for the Mount Jackson Goldfield. Or the Marda-Diemels Greenstone Belt striking a vast distance, mainly east of the above location. An exploration company in 2013, calls their area 'Marda Central' incorporating the Mount Jackson Goldfield Mines, and further mines and prospects across areas up to 50 kilometres north and east.
Older sources from 1914, locates 1mm to 4 mm bright emerald green pharmacosiderite crystals at Atkinson's Find (Butcher Bird) locality, in the northern section of the central Mount Jackson Goldfield area. As this species is uncommon, and is related, with no confidence the locality has been moved to the goldfield.
