Imilchil, Imilchil Caïdat, Imilchil Cercle, Midelt Province, Drâa-Tafilalet Region, MoroccoNicely terminated 1 inch long single apatite crystal. Taken in natural sunlight and looks a bit more purple in the picture. Nice termination.
UEL-J77Fluorapatite (Var: Carbonate-rich Fluorapatite) Ca5(PO4,CO3)3(F,O)
Phosphorite deposit, Staffel, Limburg an der Lahn, Limburg-Weilburg, Giessen Region, Hesse, GermanyThis particular piece holds a special meaning for me for many reasons. It's provenance is excellent (From the collections of Sir. Warington Smyth, Sir. Arthur Russell, and Albert McGuiness). However, this piece was given to me by my PhD adviser upon the successful defense of my degree in geosciences since I had published a paper on the apatite defect structure of different piece from the same locality (Mason et al. Am. Mineral 2009). It is 4 cm wide and 4.5 cm tall. The child photo is a picture of all the labels associated with the piece.
MY6-2VFChrysocolla Cu2-xAlx(H2-xSi2O5)(OH)4·nH2O, x < 1
Douglas Hill Mine, Ludwig, Yerington Mining District, Singatse Range, Lyon County, Nevada, USALight blue crust of chrysocolla covering an unknown olive green mineral (perhaps volborthite or tangeite). Field of view is approximately 1 cm by 0.8 cm.

9A7-E67Metacinnabar HgS
Mount Diablo Mine, Mount Diablo, Clayton, Contra Costa County, California, USALargest Crystal Size: 1 mm
Well formed metacinnabar crystals on matrix. Picture taken through loupe with my fujifilm point and shoot. Minor adjustments have been made to sharpen the image.
YL1-77APhillipsite Subgroup
US Highway 395 outcrop, Mesa, Franklin County, Washington, USABright red prismatic phillipsite crystals contained in weathered basalt vessicles. Collected this specimen in the spring of 2010 on my way from Spokane to Richland. The outcrop is a section of porous weathered Snake river basalt along 395 south of Mesa, WA. For scale the top right most vessicle is 0.4 by 0.4 cm in dimension.
This is one of my first attempts at "macro" mineral photos by taking pictures with my point and shoot through my 10X loupe. Not the best quality picture.
Note: went back and adjusted some of the levels on the pic. Looks a little better and closer to real life.
