Dennis Armbruster's Photo Gallery
R79-EVDCalcite CaCO3
Amboy Crater, Amboy, San Bernardino County, California, USAHere is a photo of just one of the smaller pieces of what I believe is pseudomorphed calcite scalenohedrons in a star pattern with a nice butterfly twin. I'm not sure what mineral replaced the calcite but it seems to be almost completely black. Many specimens have very small quartz crystals jutting out from them and are covered by druzy quartz. An American quarter is beside this specimen for size reference. I have about 20 pounds of this material and would appreciate any help that I can get to identify exactly what mineral this is. This specimen was hand collected by Dennis Armbruster in March 2008. Feel free to contact me at armbrusters@msn.com or darmbruster@yucca-valley.org
