Name:
Named in 1976 by W.G. Mumme in honor of Sir John Seymour Proud (9 August 1907, Burwood, New South Wales, Australia – 9 October 1997, Australia), mining engineer and a Director of the Peko-Wallsend mining company, developers of the Tennant Creek gold deposits, where the mineral was found. He was Knighted in 1978.
In Large and Mumme's 1975 paper, the mineral was refered to as 'Wittite B'.
