Specimen up to 1.5cm in size can sometime be removed from the matrix intact but in general they are heavily fractured.
Another occurence was located at the Hydro-Quebec quarry to the north of the Verendrye reserve showing red almandine up to 10cm in size in a paragneiss. Unfortunately they are also heavily fractured. |

✪ Spinel Formula: MgAl2O4 Locality: Cabonga Reservoir, Réservoir-Dozois, La Vallée-de-l'Or RCM, Abitibi-Témiscamingue, Québec, Canada Habit: Octahedral, Anhedral, Whiskers Colour: Blue, Red, Brown, Pink, Purple Fluorescence: Some of the pink spinel have a weak red fluorescence under UV Description: Spinel is ubiquitous at Cabonga as it is an aluminium rich granulite grade terrane.
The best specimen are found in coarse to pegmatitic marble dykes. Blue is the most
common color followed by red. Rare pink Zn bearing spinel up to 10mm also exists.
Some of the marbles are very rich in spinel but unfortunately specimen bigger than
3 or 4mm are very rare. In the marble spinel is often associated with apatite and
also included in the apatite.
