Dimensions: 14.5 cm x 12.8 cm x 7.5 cm

A beautiful, unique, sculptural and partially hollow, polished large cabinet-sized rounded half from a septarian shale geode of fluorescent yellow and brown calcite lining a vug. The unique aspect of this geode is the aesthetically placed fan of large, amber baryte blades in the cavity. Baryte is very uncommon from such geodes and this a superb one. This piece comes from Muddy Creek, Orderville, Kane Co., Utah. 14.5 x 12.8 x 7.5 cm

Calcite filled septarian nodules from Muddy Creek, Utah are a US classic and are outstanding decorator pieces. Septarian nodules are concretions containing angular cavities or cracks, which are called "septaria". The shrinkage voids in this large sawed and polished concretion are filled with four generations of colorful calcite, first the light and dark brown calcite lining the voids and then the pretty yellow and finally colorless calcite filling the large void. Yellow and brown fluorescence. Weighs 7.3 pounds or 3.3 kilograms.

Over the years we have seen tons of Calcite Septarian specimens from Orderville, Utah offered for sale as spheres, bookends, carvings, etc... Seen less often are traditional nodules. Of all the Septarian nodules found in Utah; the rarest & most sought after are the specimens that contain Barite. When material from this location was abundant you could go to any big mineral show & you would see thousands of Calcite Septarian specimens. You would indeed be fortunate to find one containing Barite. And even more fortuitous would be to find one of this quality. Another thing this fine specimen has going for it is the fact that it fluoresces a vibrant yellow.
