From what I know pictures on Mindat are subject to copyright by the person who uploaded the picture, and not by Mindat. That means you have to ask the individual uploader for permission to use the picture. If I am wrong, I am very interested in hearing what is the actual rule here

The official policy regarding image use is:
We are unable to unilaterally grant permission to use images from Mindat.org for any purpose.
Photographs, like other contributions, remain the copyright of the uploader and are labeled as such within the site on each photograph.
It is entirely up to the photographer to specify what terms of use they wish to attach to their images. Some photographers may specifically waive copyrights and allow their photographs to be freely used for any purpose. Others may allow non-commercial use of their images on request. In all cases, mindat.org is not involved with the copyright of these photographs and any such requests to use must go directly to the photographer.
To obtain individual permissions each must be obtained from the copyright holders. Hence, for each specific photo you wish to use, you must sign-in (assuming you are registered which is free to do so) and request permission via a PM (private message) to the actual copyright holder noted on each image. Mindat.org cannot grant use permission for any copyrighted material on the site.
To send a private message, you have to be registered AND be logged in to send a direct message. Once logged in, you can click on the link for the image you specified, and on the top line of his photo page, click on the first left-corner box "My Page". This will bring you to the photographer's home page, and on the right hand side, you will see a green box "Click here to send a direct message". .. and you can then send a private email.
