A former Hg occurrence/mine located in the SE¼SE¼SW¼ sec. 33, T8S, R1E, MDM, about 4.0 km WNW of New Almaden (S slope of Los Capitancillos Ridge. Located on middle adit), on county owned land (Almaden Quicksilver County Park). Discovered prior to 1861. Operated during the period 1861 to 1863. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 100 meters.
Mineralization is hosted in Late Cretaceous serpentinite. The ore body is podiform, strikes E and dips 45N. Controls for ore emplacement included the silica carbonation. Local alteration includes silica carbonate alteration of serpentine. Local rocks include rocks of the Franciscan Complex, unit 1 (Coast Ranges).
Workings include unspecified underground openings with a length of 609.6 meters (the topo map reflects 3 adit symbols and a shaded, open excavation area in the vicinity).
