A former Hg occurrence/mine located in sec. 13, T4N, R9W, MDM, 8.9 km (5.5 miles) ENE of Marshall, on the Bentley Ranch (12.5 miles SW of Petaluma). MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 1,000 meters. Discovered and first produced in 1955. Owned by Ray Schultz and Mr. Bentley. This deposit was a source of cinnabar float in Salmon Creek downstream.
Mineralization is hosted in Late Jurassic Franciscan sandstone. Controls for ore emplacement included shear breccia zones. Mineralized zones are small and discontinuous. Local alteration included hydrothermal alteration. Local rocks include rocks of the Franciscan Complex, unit 1 (Coast Ranges).
Local structures include local faults and shears.
Workings include surface and underground openings.
Production information: Year: 1962 (period = to 1962): Hg (estimate) ^ 10 pounds Hg/ton. Recovery percentage = 4,518 grams/metric ton.
