A Cr occurrence/mine located in secs. 14 & 23, T2N, R12E, MDM, about 6.2 km ESE of Carmen City. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 1,000 meters.
Mineralization is a number of discontinuous chromite lenses, pods, and small layers of chromite are present in a wide northwest-striking belt of serpentine, along with dunite and small amounts of impure tremolite asbestos. The serpentine is highly sheared in places and ranges from dark green to black in color. Local rocks include ultramafic rocks, chiefly Mesozoic, unit 2 (Western Sierra Nevada and Klamath Mountains).
Underground and surface work was done during 1958 and a small amount of ore was stockpiled. Some chromite was produced here long ago and was installed as furnace lining at the Copperopolis smelter.
