A placer Au occurrence located in the SE¼ sec. 35, T22N, R6E, MDM, 2.5 km (8,100 feet) NNW of Pompys Point (coordinates of record), along the Middle Fork Feather River near Crooked Bar, in Bald Rock Canyon, on National Forest land. Owned by the Southern Pacific Railroad Co. Operated by the Golden Gate Mining & Manufacturing. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 500 meters.
May be auriferous. Local rocks include Paleozoic metavolcanic rocks, unit 3 (Northwestern Sierra Nevada).
The Golden Gate Mining & Manufacturing worked the area using a 10 inch and 2 6 inch dredges to remove a couple hundred cubic yards of gravel per day. A 6 man crew worked from June 1st until the 1st part of October. A helicopter was used to haul in equipment and supplies to the bottom of the canyon.
