Tectonics: Cerrillos Uplift
Deposit: A narro W belt of gypsum outcrops near the rosario of the a.t. & s.f. Railway. The gypsum occurs in the todilto formation which caps a low cliff of entrada sandstone. At this point, the gypsum member forms a bench dipping gently eastward, several hundred feet wide and barren of overburden; it then extends eastward under overlying wanakah and morrison formations. The gypsum deposit extends both north and south from the mine. Northward the deposit is cut off by the rosario fault and a northeatward-trending fault. To the south the deposit is covered by the fill of galisteo creek and then reappears and continues southward for several miles, finally terminating against the rosario fault.
Development: The year of discovery is unknown. Catron land company is the first owner listed in available literature.
