Pont des Villettes quarry
This quarry is established in the Lienne valley, about a hundred m east of the Pont des Villettes and less than 1 km west of the village called Les Villettes.
Phyllades and quartzophyllades from the Lower Salmian (Jalhay Formation) were extracted there.
Dug into the hillside on the right slope of the Lienne valley, this small excavation faces not towards the river but towards the Manhay - Basse-Bodeux road. The rocky cliff, an inclined and irregular slab, is exposed towards the SSE and is therefore generally well sunny; However, it has several vertical sections oriented towards the SW, including one approximately 5 m high, and disintegrates into large slabs.
Access is prohibited. The quarry entrance is closed by padlock and the rest of the quarry is closed by a barbed wire fence.
The site adjoins the Manhay - Basse-Bodeux road to the south, near the Villettes bridge. Towards the north, it is in contact with the wooded slope of the Lienne valley and agricultural land. An active quarry ('schiste de la Lienne'), the Bertrand quarry, is located approximately 250 m to the south.
