The Athabasca Glacier is one of the largest and most accessible glaciers in the Canadian Rockies. It advanced out of the Columbia Icefield and provides source water for the Athabasca River. Glaciers are rapidly retreating; fortunately these photos were taken in 1978 and 1979. The original photos were color slides and were recently digitized and restored. Perhaps a future Mindater will use them for “before and after” comparisons.
