Mines de Bert
This old colliery was located south of Montcombroux and was first awarded in the 1830s. In the following decades, coal was mined through several shafts. A fire in 1854 resulted in a two-year cessation of operations. This time was used to sink a new shaft. In 1856, the shaft, which was called "Saint-Barbe", was put into operation. In 1859 five shafts were in operation again. In the 1870s, new shafts were sunk after the old shafts were gradually abandoned. At the beginning of the 1880s, shaft "Mandins" No. 1 was the main shaft. Towards the end of the 1st World War, the peak values in production were reached with more than 60.000 tons per year. Due to difficulties of the operators, the production decreases steadily, so that the operation is stopped in 1934. In 1942 it was recommissioned, which led to intensive coal mining. In 1947, 147.000 tons of coal shale were mined. In 1952 the operation was finally stopped.
The geo-coordinates mark the street "Mines de Mandines", which could indicate the location of the colliery
