Other/historical names associated with this locality:
Schacht Beckedorf, Schachtanlage des Beckedorfer Stollen,
In 1911 the construction of the Beckedorfer Schacht hard coal mine began, which started coal mining in 1924. After the Second World War there was a breakthrough to the Georgschacht in Stadthagen, 8 kilometers away (1946) and to the colliery in Lüdersfeld, four kilometers north-west of Beckedorf (1956), which, in contrast to the colliery in Beckedorf, had a siding. From this point on, the coal extracted in the Beckedorf field was transported by an underground colliery train operated by diesel locomotives to the production shafts several kilometers away and processed there.
The mining area of the Beckedorfer Schacht colliery stretched from the federal highway 65 in the south to the Minden-Hannover railway line in the north, as well as between the Kobbensen-Lindhorst road in the west and what is now the outskirts of Beckedorf in the east.
Although the coal seams exploited by the Beckedorf colliery were 90 cm thick compared to other German hard coal areas, high methane gas deposits – in 1955 alone over 32 million cubic meters of methane gas were extracted – made mining massively difficult and always led back to days of operational cessation. On December 2, 1959, an explosion occurred in the colliery, killing a miner and injuring 15 miners.
In 1960, operations in the Beckedorf pit along with the other Schaumburg hard coal pits in Auhagen, Lüdersfeld and the Georg pit in Stadthagen were discontinued, and the pits in Beckedorf were filled by 1962. The winding tower of the Beckedorfer shaft was blown up in 1970, the machine house of the Beckedorf shaft was demolished in 1983. The other buildings, including the former washroom, are now used by another company.
