The deposit is located 5 km south of Mazyr (coordinates are approx) and comprises the central part of the Mazyr salt structure (4.5 X 1.5 km), expressed, like the Davydov structure, along the surface of the upper saline strata. The cap of the formation was penetrated by boreholes on depth 690-735 m. Its thickness is 380-750 m. The thickness of layers of pure rock salt ranges from several tens to several hundred meters. The non-salt rocks separating them reach a thickness of 20-35 m. The color of rock salt is gray with various shades, sometimes it is of snow-white colour.
The balance reserves of the deposit are 585 million tons. The content of sodium chloride varies from 81.1 to 99.9%. The Mazyr deposit is the raw material base for the chemical plant which is under construction in Mazyr. The deposit will be developed using the underground leaching method. The resulting brines will be used for the production of caustic soda, chlorine, alkalis, as well as for boiling out salt.
