A former small surface Cu-Ag-Silica mine. Produced 1957-1958.
A Cu-Ag-Silica mine located in central E½ sec. 24, T.19S., R.18E., in the Whetstone Mountains (previously the Mine Canyon District), 17 miles SW of Benson, Cochise Co. First produced 1957. Owned/operated by International Mines of NV (1958); Mrs. Henrietta E. Miller.
Mineralization is spotty copper minerals, mostly oxidized, in Cretaceous sediments (porous sandstone), intruded by Laramide rhyodacite intrusives. Strong faulting in the area.
Operations include open pit mining for smelter flux. Produced about 1,600 tons of ore as smelter flux, containing an average of about 1.2% Cu and 0.6 oz. Ag/T, during 1957-1958.
