Winckelberg quarry
The Winkelberg Quarry or Winckelberg Quarry is a marl quarry in the Dutch municipality of Eijsden-Margraten. The underground quarry is located on the east side of the Bemelerberg, northeast of Bemelen in the Koelbosgrub dry valley near the Koelebosweg. On the other side of the dry valley lies the Krekelberg. The quarry is located on the western edge of the Margraten Plateau in the transition to the Maas Valley. In the area, the plateau plunges steeply for several meters.
About 250 meters to the southwest is the Strooberg quarry (under the Bemelerberg),
about 150 meters to the northeast is the Cluysberg quarry,
about 300 meters to the east is the Gasthuisdel quarry
and about 300 meters to the south are the Groeve Onder de weg, Bemelerbosgrove I and Bemelerbosgrove III.
Before 1700, the quarry was used by block breakers.
The Winkelberg Quarry has an entrance that defines the landscape and consists of several short corridors.
