Historic gold mine. Located immediately south of the Reuben Parr gold mine.
Kersey Cooper (E.K. Cooper) was intimately involved with this mine for most of its relatively short history. Cooper gained the lease at the end of 1887, along with the Jubilee Mine at Waitekauri. He then raised money through friends and speculators to erect a battery at the Jubilee Mine, however the ore grades were low, and in 1892 he is declared a bankrupt. At this time his interest in the Fame and Fortune Mine is sold to an English syndicate, however Cooper is retained to manage the mine affairs.
By 1899, Copper is back in control of the two mines, and trying to float it as a company in England. Meanwhile, relative Arthur Herbert Sellon arrives from Western Australia to take up the position of mine manager for the two mines. After three years there is a falling out between the directors and Sellon, and he leaves, only to be found bankrupt in 1909. Cooper sells the Fame and Fortune Mine in 1905, being unable to raise capital to develop it further.
