Diamonds have been found in alluvial gravels of the Dourados River, possibly near the town of Abadia dos Dourados (“Dourados Abbey”) which is 23 km due west of Coromandel by BR-352 highway. Abadia dos Dourados is also a municipality in Minas Gerais. At this time, the locality shown on the map is for the town of Abadia dos Dourados. The locality is known for having produced two very large diamonds including the “Abadia dos Dourados” discovered in 1938 and weighing 104 carats, and an unnamed stone discovered in 1925 and weighing 195 carats.
