This quarry, and the Hellvik quarry have a total annual production of 300.000 tons of white anorthosite. The produce is used as an additive to ceramic tiles and as crushed stone for various purposes. The quarry is operated by KS Norwegian Edelsplitt, whereas the quarry on the other side of the road (West of the RV44) is operated by Hellviksplitt AS. Both companies have a shared sales organization, KS Norwegian Edelsplitt. The quarries were opened in the 1960s and are still (2015) in operation and have large remaining reserves (NGU database).
The rock is a white anorthosite with inclusions of a green and white spotted rock of undefined origin, but probably contains epidote and prehnite. The white colour is due to hydrothermal alteration of the anorthosite. The white anorthosite constitutes 80-85% of the rock.
These deposits should not be confused with the deposits of labradorescent anorthosite a few km further west.
