Couto Mineiro do Lena (Alcobaça, Batalha e Porto de Mós), Distrito de Leiria, Portugal
- Several inactive coal/lignite mines in Batalha, Porto de Mós and Alcobaça municipalities.
Also known as "Minas da Batalha" the group of occurrences clustered in the concession "Alcanadas e Chão Preto" was one of the most important poles of Couto Mineiro do Lena (CML), wide set of coal mines/lignite layers aligned in the direction N - S along the right bank of the Lena River, which stretched for more than 10 km by the municipalities of Batalha and Porto de Mós.
Founded in 1925, the CML gathered 44 concessions some of which with no productive expression. These mines explored the levels of lignite interstratified in the Upper Jurassic carbonate complex, which were known by many outcrops, where there seems to be notes of mining activity since the first half of the eighteenth century.
Apart from the mines of Alcanadas should also be noted in this set of concessions, the mines of Bezerra, which provided until the late thirties the best coal in the region, Ferrarias and Vale Grande.
