A former underground asbestos mine located in secs. 7, 8, 17 & 18, T6N, R14E, about 1 mile just E of N from the Aztec Lodge, about 50 miles N of Globe, on National Forest land. The claims extend into secs. 7, 17 & 18.
Mineralization is a linear ore body hosted in the Mescal Limestone. The best ore was concentrated near small-scale thrust faults at the No. 2 adit.
The presence of asbestos mineralization on these claims with no visible nearby diabase intrusion is somewhat of an enigma. It could be explained by the supposition that the presence of the asbestos is the outer border phase of the mineralization related to a discordant diabase structure that may have existed on the valley side but is now entirely eroded away.
Workings: Claim No. 1 is developed by 15 and 35 foot adits. Claim No. 2 is developed by 2 adits connected by a raise and a crosscut, and short lateral drifts. Claim No. 4 is developed by an adit and side drifts, totaling about 140 linear feet. No production record.
Assay data: The asbestos is good, soft quality but is characterized by numerous partings.
