Chromite-bearing serpentinites with stitchite in pink patches up to 5 mm across. Read & Dixon (1933) describe it as being 665 yards (608 m) E. 14o S. of the 800 feet triangulation point on the top of Hoo Field. This would place it at around HU 426274, a few hundred metres north of the 1990's talc trial at HU 425271. Serpentine outcrops are common at this point, but only a few tiny pink specks (?stichtite) were observed on a visit in 2011. The original identification was based on chemical analysis. In the absence of XRD confirmation the polytype is unknown. Note the Catpund Burn Viking soapstone workings are just south of the modern trial pit and worthy of a look for those with an archaeological interest.
