P81-W6JTremolite (Var: Hexagonite) ◻{Ca2}{(Mg,Mn)5}(Si8O22)(OH)2
Gouverneur Mine, Fowler, St. Lawrence County, New York, USADark lavender tremolite variety hexagonite from the Gouverneur mine,Fowler, New York. Specimen measures approximately 4 by 3 1/4 by 2 inches.
DD4-KK4Anthophyllite ◻{Mg2}{Mg5}(Si8O22)(OH)2 , Tremolite ◻Ca2Mg5(Si8O22)(OH)2
International Talc Company Mine, Talcville, St. Lawrence County, New York, USAA shortwave UV (254nm) photo of anthophyllite (fluorescent red) and tremolite (fluorescent orange) from the International Talc Company Mine (Reynold Mine), Talcville, St. Lawrence County, New York: dimensions approximately 11.5 cm by 9 cm (4.5 inches by 3.5 inches). The anthophyllite is pink in visible light and partly transparent in some crystal sections. The tremolite is white or off-white in visible light.
The specimen originally labelled "tirodite" was confirmed to be anthophyllite by XRD performed by John Attard in April, 2012.
JF9-JF7Anthophyllite ◻{Mg2}{Mg5}(Si8O22)(OH)2 , Tremolite ◻Ca2Mg5(Si8O22)(OH)2
International Talc Company Mine, Talcville, St. Lawrence County, New York, USAA shortwave UV (254nm) photo of anthophyllite (fluorescent red) and tremolite (fluorescent orange) from the International Talc Company Mine (Reynold Mine), Talcville, St. Lawrence County, New York: dimensions approximately 11.5 cm by 9 cm (4.5 inches by 3.5 inches).
The anthophyllite occurs as light pink semi-transparent crystals in a white tremolite matrix. The specimen originally labelled "tirodite" was determined to be anthophyllite as confirmed by XRD analysis performed by John Attard in April 2012.
Albany Rose Quarry working face July 2008
Albany Rose Quarry, Albany, Oxford County, Maine, USAA view of rose quartz insitu in the working face of the quarry in the summer (July) of 2008. Five gallon bucket provides scale. Some microcline crystals are visible insitu immediately above the bucket at the top of the picture.
KW7-3CXMicrocline K(AlSi3O8)
Albany Rose Quarry, Albany, Oxford County, Maine, USADimensions: 13 inches x 12 inches x 8 inches
Microcline crystals in quartz with minor muscovite; overall specimen size is 13 inches by 12 inches. Collected in July 2008 from surface dump material.
XLX-KLLMicrocline K(AlSi3O8)
Albany Rose Quarry, Albany, Oxford County, Maine, USAMicrocline crystals, approximately 30 centimeters (12 inches) on longest dimension (work glove for scale), from Albany Rose Quarry, Oxford Co., Maine. Photographed in July 2008. The Albany Rose Quarry was developed over the summer of 2008 by Barry Heath on his property. Observed minerals of note were good microcline crystals up to one meter in three dimensions (sitting by the mine road on the way into the quarry), fluorapatite crystals up to 7.5 centimeters (3 inches) in length and over 2.5 centimeters (one inch) in diameter, some terminated, and massive pale rose quartz with some samples of excellent color.
