Abstract/Notes | Abstract Radiogenic isotope geochemistry of shales, siliciclastics and carbonates potentially provides important information on the evolution of reservoirs such as continental crust or seawater. The aim of this study is to show that Sr and Nd isotope compositions of Cenozoic sediments and fossil remains in rift-related basins of the Massif Central can be used to contribute to a better understanding of rifting processes. Two questions are of particular relevance: firstly, did the volcanic activity which started during Eocene in the Massif Central continue through Oligocene, if so it would only be visible in sediments? Secondly, did the sedimentation occur in basins directly connected with seawater or in isolated lakes? |
