| Abstract/Notes | The Shumardia limestone that forms the upper part of the Levis Formation (Zone D) yields well preserved assemblages of chitinozoans. These assemblages seem to be characterized by a new species: Conochitina pirum. They also contain Fustichitina langei, Conochitina poumoti, and Conochitina cf. C. kryos species, which permit a comparison with Arenig microfaunas from Spitsbergen and Australia. The paleontological data, especially those given by graptolites, indicate that Zone D is of late Arenig age. This age determination is corroborated by the absence of lower Llanvirn chitinozoans in the samples studied. |
