Name:
The name was first introduced by d`Andrada in 1800 for a mineral from the Utö mines in Sweden (with the spelling ichtyopthalme). The name is derivated from the greek words for fish, ἰχθύς and eye, οφθαλμός, after the fisheyelike lustre of the mineral. Later showed to be identical with apophyllite. A.G. Werner later also used the name "Fischaugenstein" for the same mineral.
