3wRe: Brucite Matrix?Reply from Christian Auer in Photos.
How would you explain the attached picture? The CuSO4 reacted just with the carbonate hydromagnesite and not with the hydroxyde brucite and the matrix?Still, if I had to bet for a beer I would choose artificial.
3wRe: The Mindat WorldReply from Christian Auer in General.
Happened to me already several times (astonishingly always outside of Austria) that I was heartly welcomed by completely strangers to me as they knew me from mindat. I always was completely surprised but indeed we are a small community.
4wRe: Boldut Mine or Herja Mine?Reply from Christian Auer in Photos.

Artinite is much thinner than the xtls shown above. My guess would be aragonite.
10wRe: Grass green duftite ? and malachite "urchins" ...Reply from Christian Auer in Photos.
As I have no info about that locality (and seeing also rosasite is mentioned) I feel a bit uncomfortable to add malachit as new mineral there. Any references?
10wRe: Grass green duftite ? and malachite "urchins" ...Reply from Christian Auer in Photos.
The bright green in the child pictures should be the duftite. The first one is misleading and should be exchanged. By the way: malachite doesnt show up in the mineral list of that locality.

11wRe: Usage of the photo for a scientific publicationReply from Christian Auer in Photos.
Nicu`s last visit on mindat was in 2019, so chances are very low that he will see a PM on mindat.

Jan 2024Re: Mineral SymbolsReply from Christian Auer in Photos.
I also thought on some annotations already. The problem is you often have a just small dot of ore. When you add the text Tnt-Fe for example you dont see that small dot anymore! Thats sometimes really a mess by printed media. I`ll try the existing annotations the next time I have a thin ...
Jan 2024Re: Mineral SymbolsReply from Christian Auer in Photos.
No big deal, changed the photos and will do so in future. In my opinion its more important to write in the description what you see!
Jan 2024Re: Mining and Minerals in Computer GamesReply from Christian Auer to an article.
Dont forget Civ4. Its most important to have enough mines (iron, silver, gold, copper) in the game.

Oct 2023Re: Calderónite type localityReply from Christian Auer in Improving Mindat.org.
A small side note. This is the other locality you mention https://www.mindat.org/loc-58140.html . I found calederonite in 1992 but was not able to ID it further on. A first publication was made in 1996 as an unkown Pb-Fe-vanadate  Taucher J. & Hollerer Ch. E. (1996): Vanadinit und ...

Sep 2023Re: The importance of recreational mineralogists to mineralogyReply from Christian Auer in Education.
For some people in science its important to put others in categories. My boss always explains me how linked professionals and amateurs are in astronomy. In archeology its completely the opposite. If you didnt study you arent allowed to do anything. Mineralogy is between both in my opinion.By the ...

A surprising twist in this case! I made a SEM-EDS of this mineral and its pure clausthalite!
Mar 2023Re: TiemanniteReply from Christian Auer in General.
Thank you Helmut! From a FB group I got a similiar response. Ok now its narrowed down to  Clausthal, Trogtal, Lerbach, Zorge und Tilkerode. It seems that the most stuff came from Zorge. Is this true?
Mar 2023Re: TiemanniteReply from Christian Auer in General.
Yes the second line is selenmercur which is tiemannite.
