Is there such a Quartz variety as Rhinestone xtls?

Hi,

I'd say no.

There are so called "Rheinkiesel", which would translate into "Rhine pebbles",

rounded quarty pebbles found in the river Rhine,

presumably originating in the Hunsrück and Taunus mountains in Germany.

Some of them are translucent to transparent, but except for that,

they have nothing in common with the crystals shown in the picture.

( Of course, someone could simply come up with a name

for an odd growth form and call it a variety.

You can't drag him before a court for doing that, it's not illegal)

Clear quartz crystals faceted to imitate a diamond is, in danish language, also called "Rhinsten". They are famous from the area around the Rhine in Germany.

There are two legitimate uses for "Rheinstone" or "Rhinestone" in english: Natural rounded alluvial quartz pebbles from the river Rhine, as Amir pointed out; and cut facetted quartz (generally very cheap ones), as Christian pointed out, or even glass, used in costume jewellery or sewn onto clothes.

But photo 104571 just shows ordinary quartz crystals (perhaps popularly known in the non-mineralogical world as "rock crystal") and there is no purpose whatsoever in inventing any new special name for these.

That's what I thought Alfredo.
