GeneralUnapproved photo in a public gallery?

Hello, I posted this photo of native antimony and stibnite at the beginning of April. It wasn't approved, and the message "identification uncertain" appeared. I immediately modified the description, providing more details: the piece is from the Yves Moello collection, who studied and analyzed the sample, but the photo remains in user gallery only. Is there a problem with my description?

"native antimony in a small piece of stibnite, sample sawn to clearly see the antimony."

I didn't review the photo, but  in the photo, where is the native antimony and where is the stibnite?

Native antimony is bright grey and stibnite is dark grey

It would help if you used the annotation tool and included two arrows pointing out the different minerals.

Also adding your comment from above to the text "Native antimony is bright grey and stibnite is dark grey" as not everyone who looks at mindat photos is aware of which is which.

Using the annotation tool is also very useful for folks who may be colourblind and really not see much difference in colours of a similar hue, or even be aaware of what a particular mineral looks like.

(I didn't review the photo by the way).

Thanks Keith, I don't know the annotation tool, I have a lot of trouble with English and it's not easy for me to find all the mindat tools.

Bonjour Alain, n’hésite pas à me questionner si besoin.

If you click on your photo you will note in the top right hand corner of the screen there is a heading of Annotations and immediately below is a box   [ Add ]

Simply click in the box and two headings will appear in the top left of your screen.
Simply move one of those to labels to the appropriate spot on the specimen. then the same for the others.

Then select save and finish.

These can then be collapsed - and you will note that your photo then has a little tag arrow in the left hand top corner.

bonjour Jean-Marc peut tu me dire comment l'option d'annotation des photos fonctionne ?

4th May 2026 09:33 UTCAlain Guillet OP

Thanks Keith, I think I managed to add the annotations to my photo.

It seems like editing the description doesn't always put the photo back into the approval queue.  I had a similar issue where a reviewer suggested a more specific locality.  After changing the locality and description, nothing happened for over a month (in that case, I also wasn't happy with the photo quality, and after I replaced the photo with a better image it went back in the queue and got approved).

Editing the description does seem to put the photo back in the queue if it was approved for public galleries, but maybe not if it was placed in user gallery?

Yes, that's the problem. We get a message asking us to make a change, but once the photo is changed, we don't hear anything back, and since we don't know who posted the message, we don't know who to contact.

I have had this issue multiple times.

There has been a problem at times where edited photos automatically went to User Only, but it’s fixed now.
