I am quite new to fossil collecting. I am considering visiting a Devonian-age site in VA. Does anyone have some tips on how to find fossils faster? What should I look for?

Do lots of research before hand and have literature and maps printed out before hand. Look at pictures of fossils that you might find so that you will be familiar with what they look like.

Check out The Fossil Forum. Search for the Virginia Devonian site on the Forum or use Google.

I feel like saying dig more quickly! ((-:)

Forget the minerals you dig up, just look for fossils (former living organisms preserved in rock or soil). So if it moves - it's not yet a fossil ((-:)

But as said above - try the fossil forum.
