PhotosHave some problem with this photo?

Hello, I would like to know if there is any problem regarding the approval of this photo, I uploaded it about 20 days ago and it has not yet been approved. but I can see that it has been viewed 8 times by people who have access to it even before it was approved. I would like a return on this, after all I doubt whether it is something related to the quality of the image, or about the veracity of the mineral that was even analyzed. Greetings, Jhonatan.

Jhonatan,  I'm not a manager so I can't really help you BUT I think it's an excellent image!  Remember Tucson......give it a few days....

Jhonatan,

There are 170 images in the queue for approval. I'm not the expert for Brazil but will try to help.
I looked at your image and there is nothing wrong with the quality. Congrats for the sharp image. We see more blurry images than sharp images lately.
But you say it has been analysed. A pic of that analyse would be perfect as child image to avoid that the pic is questionned afterwards.
Another thing : could you please just put the FOV in the provided area and not put it a second time in the text. It is of no use as it is already in the header. Thank you.
Post the analysis and I approve your image.
I hope this helps.
Paul.

Hello Paul, your name is already familiar to me, because all my friends in the UK mention your name and your excellent work with the administration of that region. But I have some points to question that contradict the way of managing the locality of Brazil, this is not directed at you. I hope you understand me. 1- there are other whiteites published in the same place and none of them follow the analysis result, why in my case is it necessary to show the analysis? It is interesting that the samples posted are from my Italian friend Sergio Varvello, and all of them, including mine, were acquired during our mineral trips to the site in 2018 and 2019. 2- Why doesn't the location of Brazil have a Brazilian as a manager? some mineralogist geologists who have already described new minerals in Brazil and know all the occurrences well, maybe this is an option, and dealing with that with a foreigner is difficult because, unfortunately, we still don't have up-to-date literature on mineralogy, so it means we can't prove what we know from experience? I leave here a way to vent, because I see pictures of minerals posted by me that were not approved, maybe even due to a certain prejudice, in the sense of doubting what I know.
Cheers, Jhonatan.

My only suggestion would be to crop the image a bit more to remove the “blurred bits”. That would give a 100% improvement. Even if I was familiar with this mineral I would have messaged to get the photo cropped first.

I don’t think we actually have a Brazilian manager, but we do have some Brazilian experts.

I will often approve Brazilian “common” minerals that I know what they are visually but will always leave those I’m not familiar with for the relevant expert.

The photo doesn’t have to have additional ID data.

We also don’t always know enough about the person uploading to have a better idea of the abilities of the person to provide a correct ID. It is not necessary to have for example a detailed home page, but the more info we do have will often make it easier to approve.

And certainly no prejudice from me, I value all contributions.

We have to deal with hundred of photos daily. Even ones that have been approved sometimes get queried and re-reviewed.

It’s the same with reviewing and approving localities and references - it all takes a lot of time and we are all volunteers and I only spend around 50+ hours / week on mindat!

And don’t feel too bad as some photos have been sitting for a lot longer than 20 days.

Hello Jhonatan,
Thank you for the reply.
I'm happy that you appreciate my work on mindat as well as our UK friends.
I try to do my best to avoid errors and to improve the database, that's why I asked for the analysis you mentionned in your first message. You would be the first to post that !
I can assure you that there is no prejudice from my part and I think that I can speak for all the managers here. Jealousy and prejudice never build good databases or friendships like we have here.
We have a Brazilian expert but just noticed that his last visit on mindat was februari 4th.
That probably explains why your pic is not approved yet.
It would be great if you could ad to the text a quote like " this specimen is from a parcell, aquired ...................in 2019 and that a few where analysed by ( analitic method ) and proved to be .................".
I must admit that 1 expert for such a huge country like Brazil is not enough. He could be on mission, ill, to a great show like Tucson, to much work or not interested any more and thus unable to approve pictures. With a country of almost half Western Europe and so many localities it's nearly impossible to know them all.
Therefore we are always looking for local experts so if you know somebody who could fit the job and have some hours a week to spend here, he would be very welcome. 30 minutes every day viewing Brazilian pictures and localities can be very productive.
As Keith mentionned, most of us spend around 50 hours a week here on voluntary base. It's not indispenseable, but it helps !
Best regards from Belgium.
Paul.
