Improving Mindat.orgNew organisation for the Touissit district
3rd Jan 2017 16:12 UTCGeorges Favreau Manager
Norman King raised a question about the Touissit district in a thread dedicated to the organization of Moroccan regions.
Let us continue this specific discussion in a new thread.
Here is Norman's question:
"I wonder about “districts.” You did not mention them in your discussion, and not many districts are listed for Morocco. Toussit is a district. What caught my attention is that the district has only a few subdivision, one of which is Toussit itself. That is OK, just as there is Mexico (D.F.) and Mexico (City). But it seems if a specimen is attributed to Toussit, we do not know if that is Toussit (the individual locality within the district) as opposed to Toussit (the district). Is there no way to determine the level of Toussit, when it is specified alone? It would certainly be possible to specify Toussit District for any specimen. However, we would not know which specimens already in the database and designated only by Toussit are from the district and which we can say more precisely are from the locality of the same name within that district. So this issue affects a very large number of specimens."
In my opinion, the "Touissit" level as it is defined now is not correct.
Localities were created without knowing the general frame and some corrections seem necessary.
The "Bou Beker" mines should be under the "Touissit district" level, not under "Touissit, Touissit district".
I already corrected the spelling of the "Oued Mekta" mine (misspelled as "Ourd Mekta"). I have to check if it can be merged with "#11 pit".
The Hassi Ennyag mine, which I visited, is not listed.
As you see, this district needs some rework. This is interesting, because the Touissit district is a great mineral locality.
Georges.

- district renamed,
- organization of localities reworked,
- map of the district added,
- description of the district added + references,
- 6 species added (for such a big district, the count of species is very low).
Georges.
