Hello

I am heading to Maine on short notice.Be staying in the Greenwood area.Arriving on Weds. Will be visiting the Frank Perham quarries of course.I would like to add a few more collecting spots.Anyone have any ideas about other sites in the area?Would love to hear from a local collector.

Thank you

Steve

You could try Deer Hill, Moat Mt, Mt. Apatite, all in that general area.

Thank you Wayne

Did go to Moat Mt.&Mt Apatite.Happy these places are still open for collecting.I was completely amazed at the vast complex of mines at Mt Apatite.I spent most of my time exploring the many large tailing and many pits.Next time I will bring a camera.

We got skunked at Deer Hill, and there were wolves!

Best to get in with the local clubs from what I'm told... I want to visit Emmons and Tiger Bill quarries.

Contact the Poland Mining Camps people.

Emmons and Tiger Bill are owned by the Maine mineral and Gem Museum. They allow clubs with insurance and Maine mineral adventure and Poland Mining Camp in to collect. The Maine Mineralogical and Geological Society has had trips to both places this year already.

Another collecting area is Lord Hill which is not very far from Deer Hill. As for wolf's at Deer Hill I have been collecting there for over 25 years and never seen tracks, scat or heard a wolf. However there are coy dogs in that part of the country. You have a much better chance of seeing a big bull moose like I did last week.

Does the Maine mineral and Gem Museum own any other mines?

12th Jul 2016 10:37 UTCTom Klinepeter

Wayne,

The museum also owns the Bumpis in Albany..
