I recently acquired a sample of grossular garnet for my collection. I believe I have the correct location for the specimen but Mindat does not directly show the location as seen on the label. It seems that the location is described differently due to the language. The label states Fluss Wiluja, Yakueja, USSR for the location. Google suggests Yakutia in place of Yakueja. Plugging that in Mindat shows Sakha Republic, Eastern Siberian Region, Russia as the location. looking at the grossular pictures for that location I am guessing that Vilyui River Basin is what the label calls Fluss Wiluja in the language they used. Am I correct in this thought? Was this in German or some other language?
I have included two photos, one for the specimen and the other for the label.
"Fluss" is German for river. The spelling of the other words may vary, but are "transliterated" from the home language into English spelling so they sound the same.
