It's a few years since I was last up in Rookhope but Jesse's picture of the Grove Rake headframe brought back some happy memories. In the 1980s a small group of us had a guided tour of the workings with the company geologist Dave Strutt. We walked down the decline at Frazers and spent a couple of hours examining features of interest before working our way along the connecting level and being brought up to grass via the shaft in the photo. Unfortunately we were not allowed to collect specimens as the miners are very possessive about them but we did see numerous cavities in the vein walls mainly filled with quartz, ankerite and sphalerite crystals. When I first used to go up Rookhope the Redburn and Stotfield Burn mines were still working and the headframe at Wolfcleugh was still standing. Strange how one can get sentimental about scrap iron!
