Improving Mindat.orgWrong locality entry

1st Jul 2008 13:29 UTCSebastian Möller Expert

Hello,

The following locality entry is wrong:

http://www.mindat.org/loc-5744.html

There is a amalie adit in Nordrach, which belongs to the St. Jakob mine (http://www.mindat.org/loc-32465.html).

The locality http://www.mindat.org/loc-5744.html is actually situated in the southern Black Forest and belongs to the Münstertal mining district. Grunern is part of Staufen at the entrance to the Münstertal valley 25 km south of Freiburg.

Also: Neither Biberach nor Nordrach are parts of Zell am Harmersbach. So the localities belonging to Biberach (e.g. Eichhalde(http://www.mindat.org/loc-32435.html)) as well as Nordrach shouldn't be listed under Zell im Harmersbach.

Amalie:

Schlomann, C. (1990): Die Grube Amalie bei Grunern im Südschwarzwald, Der Aufschluss, Vol. 41, 339-344

gives the name as Amalie mine, not Amalie adit. Is he wrong?

Were there several mines or one mine with several adits?

Hello Uwe,

You're right with the reference and the Amalie mine (it is a mine).

But in the current locality index Grunern is situated under Nordrach (near Offenburg) instead of Staufen (Münstertal), which is wrong.

In Nordrach there is a adit called Amalie which belongs to the St. Jakob mine. I think that both localities got mixed up.

Locality <" rel="nofollow">http://www.mindat.org/loc-5744.html> is near Staufen (Southern Black Forest) and the locality Schlomann is describing, whereas <" rel="nofollow">http://www.mindat.org/loc-32465.html> is the adit near Nordrach. I've been at both localities to collect minerals.

Ok, fixed (please check).

Have added the adit near Nordrach as a new sublocality of the St. Jakob mine:

The St. Jakob mine only lists Ganomatite. Have you found other species?

Hello Uwe,

Yes, now it's right. As the Amalie adit (Amalienstollen) was part of the St. Jakob mine, most of the minerals in the St. Jakob list have been found at both localities. I have some specimen from there including tennantite, bismuthinite and chalkopyrite which can be surely added to the list. The ganomatite was referenced in BLIEDTNER&MARTIN(1986). There is another publication about bismut minerals in the Kinzigtal area (in the "Aufschluss" I think) listing bismuthinite, bismutoferrite and quartz from a vein near the Amalie adit. I've managed to find one piece in the gravel near the adit(now only a little sink in a meadow), but I've not found the outcrop of that vein described in both sources.

Sebastian Möller
