Definition of mold
A mold (or mould) of a crystal is the imprint left within the rock matrix showing the negative shape of the crystal when this part of the rock is split away from the crystal.
It is frequently, but incorrectly, referred to as a cast probably due to confusion over the use of the term negative cast to refer to the mold.
